Understanding the Background of Vancouver Chefs



Chefs remain in high demand across the nation. Canada has become and owns a very multicultural society, and this multicultural society has increased the demand for chefs specializing in foreign cuisine/multiple gourmet preparation. Community colleges running a Culinary programs say their graduates are not having any trouble in finding work in Canada as chefs, and they get a chance to pick from multiple employment offers offered by big companies in Vancouver as Vancouver chefs, Quebec chefs etc. Chefs-trained in Europe and such specialists as saucieres and great pastry chefs are in short supply in Canada. As per the Canadian Federation of Chefs and Cooks, the best trained chefs and cooks are in very high demand and get multiple offers to choose from. Demographic changes is expected to increase the demand and need for chefs and cooks in establishments that can cater to everyone as per their requirement.


























Duties for Chefs/ Line cooks
Chefs plan a direct preparation of cuisine and supervise cooking activities for preparation and sometimes cook meals and specialty foods. They are employed in various places like restaurants, hotels, hospitals and other health care institutions, central food commissaries etc.

Description of Main Duties:
Chefs within his/her job performs some or all of the following duties:
·         Plans a direct cuisine preparation and cooking activities of several restaurants in an establishment, restaurant chains, hospitals or other establishments with food services
·         Connect and consults with clients/guest regarding weddings, banquets and specialty functions
·         Plan menus accordingly and ensures cuisine meets the quality standards
·         Estimate the requirements accordingly and may need to estimate food and labor costs
·         Take charge of the activities of sous-chefs, specialist chefs, chefs and cooks
·         Arrange for equipment purchases and repairs as per the requirement
·         Look after the Recruitment and staff hiring

·         May need to work and prepare - cook cuisine on a regular basis, for special guests at special functions


























Sous-chefs perform some or all of the following duties as needed:
·         Take command of the activities of specialist chefs, chefs, cooks and other hired kitchen workers
·         Familiarize others with new cooking techniques and new equipment to cooking staff
·         Manual planning menus and requisition of raw materials and kitchen supplies for the gourmet
·         Need to prepare and cook meals or specialty foods
Chefs, specialist chefs, Vancouver chefs perform some or all of the following duties:
·         Accumulate raw materials, prepare them and cook complete meals or specialty foods, such as pastries, sauces, soups, salads, vegetables and meat, poultry and fish dishes, and create decorative food displays for special events such as banquets
·         Instruct Line cooks in preparation, on cooking, garnishing and presentation of food
·         Formulate new recipes
·         Supervise cooks, chefs and other kitchen staff
·         Plan menus as per requirement
·         Need to requisition food and kitchen supplies
